For our last trip of this summer, 2003, we camped at Poe Valley State Park, and visited the adjoining Poe Paddy State Park. This trip will forever be memorable as the trip Aunt Heather fell down the "big hill and got the big, BIG ouchy". :-) I fell down a hill the first night, and spent the night in the emergency room getting my knee stitched up. Bruised ribs, a 5 inch cut in my knee.. we stayed for the rest of the week-end anyway.

The "Waterfall"
the spillway from the dam feeds this waterfall - it's a gorgeous little area, clear down through the small creek. To get here, we walked through the amphitheater area, it's only a few feet from there.
The Beach & Paddle Boats
I was surprised to find we could rent paddle boats here - cheaply! $5 for half an hour. Interesting, at a rural rustic campground with non flush potties. :-) The canoe belongs to my brother in law.

The Railroad Tunnel at Poe Paddy
250 ft long tunnel is a short hike across very flat terrain and the beautiful railroad bridge. I managed this with my leg in an immobilizer, the day after I had stitches put in my knee. It's that easy. :-)
This is the side we came out of. After walking through we explored the area, including the small building that looks like an old train station.. I'd love to find more information on this tunnel - when it was built, when it was abandoned, etc. Anyway, then we turned around and walked back the way we came.

Our Site
our site. The sites were nice here - many are close together, but not unbearably so. The bathrooms here are NOT flush, but were very clean on our visit.. there are no showers here. The beach is within easy walking distance of the sites.
